Fatal accident at construction site near Holland Tunnel
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- One man is dead after a construction accident in lower Manhattan early Saturday morning.
Police say a counterweight fell off the top of the crane and landed on a construction worker identified as 34-year-old Gregory Echevarria of Brooklyn. He was dead at the scene.
Two other workers are to Lenox Hill hospital with minor injuries.
The accident happened near the entrance to the Holland tunnel at the corner of Varick and Broome Streets at about 3:15 a.m.
